The G.O.A.T. Tote Sewing Pattern Tutorial

This beginner-friendly sewing pattern is perfect for a quick gift. The pattern pieces are all straight-edged rectangles that can be cut with a rotary blade. You can find a video tutorial on my IG @ronya_designs

Sewing Instructions

Basic G.O.A.T. Tote

Seam Allowances: Baste at ¼” & Sew at ½” Topstitch at 1/8”

MATERIAL RECOMMENDATIONS

Exterior Fabric: Recycled Canvas, Dogwood Denim, Cypress Cotton Canvas

Lining Fabric: Petal Signature Cotton, Cotton Poplin, Quilting Cotton

CUT LIST

Bag Exterior cut 1x  14 ½” x 23”

Bag lining cut 2x 14” x 11”

Fusible Foam Stabilizer 1x 13 ½” x 22”

Webbing 2x 16”

PREPARATION

  1. Cut Exterior, Lining, Foam & Webbing

EXTERIOR

  1. Center foam on the WS of the exterior piece and fuse
  2. Place webbing ends 2” from the center of each short side and baste
  3. Fold exterior RST and sew along both sides
  4. Cut 2” squares from both bottom corners
  5. Box the corners and sew

LINING

  1. Place lining pieces RST and sew along sides and bottom leaving  a 5” turning gap
  2. Cut 2” squares from both bottom corners
  3. Box the corners and sew

ASSEMBLY

  1. Turn the lining right side out 7 place it inside the exterior RST
  2. Clip the top edges, matching your side seams
  3. Sew around the top edge
  4. Turn through the turning gap
  5. Stitch the turning gap closed
  6. Roll the top edge & clip
  7. Top stitch around the top edge

Bag lining cut 2x 14” x 11”

Fusible Foam Stabilizer 1x 13 ½” x 22”

Webbing 2x 16”

Cut Exterior, Lining, Foam & Webbing

Place exterior pieces RST and stitch along the bottom edge before continuing with the basic pattern instructions.
