Sewing a Ballet Wrap Skirt with Spoonflower Poly Crepe de Chine

Kelsey’s custom Scorpio ballet skirt was sewn from my Scorpion Tattoo Cherry Flame design, using Spoonflower Poly Crepe de Chine.

First, she chose her custom colors by using a Spoonflower Color Map. We wanted a light drapey fabric that would allow for free range of movement without clinging. After testing a few different options, we decided to use the Spoonflower Poly Crepe de Chine. Using one yard of fabric, I drafted a wrap skirt pattern, cut on the bias. For a ballet skirt, avoid pleating or gathering around the waist, and instead cut the fabric on a circle and let it fall from the waistband. I cut a 2″ bias tape out of black woven cotton, and stitched it to the waistband, leaving enough length to wrap and tie at the back. The hemline was finished with a 1/4″ rolled hem.

Kelsey, you’re the best! xo Ronya
